Truth:
I moved to LA in 2014 to pursue a career in acting after I graduated from college with a degree in theater and film. The odds were against me… I was moving to a place where I was no longer a big fish in a small pond, but a small fish, in a rather large pond with lots of other uniquely talented and pretty fish very similar to me. I knew I was in for a difficult journey ahead. I’ve heard many things: “it’s all about who you know”, “you gotta be in the right place at the right time” “Fake it till ya make it”, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” “it takes at least 10 years before anything happens”.. and many more. While I’ve had my ups and downs, cries and break downs… I’m still trying. I may not be where I’ve dreamed of (yet) but I’m somewhere; I’m right where I need to be. I can’t compare my journey to anyone else’s. Some days I want to quit.. and each time I think I’m done, I can’t imagine myself doing something else.
I was no longer a big fish in a small pond
Behind all the haters or people who have probably laughed behind my back when I said I’m moving to LA, I have friends and family that believe in me and support me wholeheartedly… While I can’t tell you what this was for, Downtown LA was transformed to the 1950’s, and I, Alexandra Izzo, was on a Hollywood set, as a working actress. No matter how small or big the role is, it’s so important to take a step back and see how far you actually have really come. We all are constantly pushing and pushing to get to the top, ( what ever that is) but sometimes we forget to turn around to see how far we’ve actually come- and be proud of it.
If you don’t give yourself that pat on the back, wherever you are may never be enough. It may not be what you’ve imagined or dreamed of, but it’s on the way. You’ve probably come so far. So if you’re feeling low, or stuck, or unaccomplished, take a step back, turn around and see everything you have accomplished. You’ll feel pretty good. You’re doing just fine, and you’re right where you need to be. 💚
